The project tentatively called 'The Great Emoji Challenge' will see contestant deciphering what a series of the winky faces means.

AceShowbiz - After landing a Hollywood movie deal at Sony Pictures Animation, Emoji is now heading to television. The popular digital face usually used to personalize texts is turned into a "primetime studio comedy game show" dubbed "The Great Emoji Challenge".

According to Deadline, the project comes from Studio Lambert, the mastermind behind CBS's "Undercover Boss" and NBC's "The Million Second Quiz". It will see contestants decoding what a string of emojis stand for and winning up to $1 million.

Emoji is a public domain so it's free for grab. Sony won a bidding war against Paramount and Warner Brothers to develop a feature film co-written by Eric Siegel ("Men at Work") and Anthony Leondis ("Kung Fu Panda: Secrets of the Masters"). Leondis is also expected to direct.

The "Emoji" movie follows in the footsteps of similar flicks like "The Lego Movie" and "Pixels". Other upcoming toy-themed movies include "My Little Pony", "Monopoly", "Minecraft", "Play-Doh", and an untitled Pez movie.
