Guillermo del Toro Plans Five Seasons for 'The Strain'

Producer Carlton Cuse reveals the 'game plan' that he and Guillermo del Toro have mapped out for the FX vampire series.

"The Strain" is going to come to an end only after it hits season five. The revelation came after FX announced at the Television Critics Association press tour in Beverly Hills, California that the Corey Stoll-starring vampire series was picked up for a third season.

Producer Carlton Cuse said as quoted by The Hollywood Reporter, "From the very beginning, we had really talked about the first book being the first season, the second book being the next two seasons and the third book the last two seasons. We've stuck to that game plan."

Unlike the first and second seasons which had 13 episodes each, the all future seasons will be cut down to 10 episodes. "And then that will be the end," Cuse added.

Asked if the show could move on beyond the books like "Game of Thrones" did, co-creator Guillermo del Toro said, "The way we see it is as a closed tale, and I'd very much like to keep it that way."
