The 'Southpaw' actor is in early talks to play Jeff Bauman, a survivor who lost both his legs in the attack which happened in 2013.

AceShowbiz - Jake Gyllenhaal is in early talks to star in Lionsgate's Boston Marathon bombing film "Stronger", Variety reports. While the studio has eyed several actors for the project, Gyllenhaal has emerged as the most likely candidate to take a lead role.

"Stronger" tells the story of Jeff Bauman, who survived the 2013 Boston Marathon bombing. He was twenty-seven years old when the first bomb went off at his feet as he awaited his girlfriend at the finish line. Bauman chronicled his experience being a victim of the tragic event in a book of the same name which he co-wrote with Bret Witter.

Earlier this month, the movie eyed David Gordon Green to serve behind the lens. John Pollono wrote the screenplay based on Bauman's book. David Hoberman and Todd Lieberman (Mandeville Films) are producing alongside Scott Silver. The trio previously worked together on David O. Russell's "The Fighter" which led them to be Oscar nominees.

"Stronger" is not the only movie about Boston Marathon bombing which is being developed. 20th Century Fox's "Boston Strong", expected to arrive in the U.S. in 2017, and Mark Wahlberg-starrer "Patriots' Day" are also in the works.

Gyllenhaal recently appeared in boxing movie "Southpaw" which had strong performance at box office. He is set to star in Tom Ford's next film "Nocturnal Animals" alongside Amy Adams.
