Eli Roth is in talks to direct upcoming prehistoric shark film "Meg" based on Steve Alten's New York Times bestseller for Warner Bros., sources tell Variety. According to the site, the "Hostel" director will helm the thriller with a screenplay from Dean Georgaris.
Atelles Entertainment's Belle Avery and Maedey Productions' Colin Wilson are producing the project. Gerald Molen and Randy Greenberg will serve as executive producers while Andrew Fischel and Cate Adams will oversee the project for Warner Bros. Gravity Pictures will co-finance the production and distribute the film in China.
"Meg" tells a story about two men who team up to neutralize an ancient shark called The Megalodon which is threatening the California coast. The Megaladon was considered one of the largest and most powerful predators in history as the creature can reach a maximum length of 60 feet.
The project was originally set up at Disney in 1997 but it fell behind after the studio was unable to get it into production before the release of another shark flick "Deep Blue Sea".
Eli has wrapped filming two upcoming horror movies "The Green Inferno" and "Knock Knock" which stars Keanu Reeves. "The Green Inferno" is set to hit U.S. theaters on September 25 while "Knock Knock" is scheduled for a June 26, 2016 release.
