Simon Cowell Recalls 'Great Times' on 'American Idol' in Light of Show's Cancellation

'We had a blast!' so says Cowell, one of the original judges on the show, in a statement, thanking FOX for 'giving us the opportunity.'

AceShowbiz - Following news that "American Idol" will return for its 15th and last season in 2016, Simon Cowell released a statement recalling "great times" on the show. "We had a blast!" he said, "Me, Paula [Abdul], Randy [Jackson], Ryan [Seacret]-and not forgetting Brian [Dunkleman]. Thanks to the fans we were able to make some great shows and found some amazing artists. Fox took a risk on a brand new show and I want to thank them for giving us the opportunity. They really were great times."

The British music producer, who served as judge on the show from the start in 2002 until 2010, echoed the sentiment on a Twitter post. "Looking back at my time on American Idol we had a great time. We found great artists. Had fun. And to America. Thank you. It was a blast," he wrote.

Meanwhile, host Ryan Seacrest who has been the mainstay on the singing competition said in a statement to Entertainment Weekly, " 'American Idol' has been a big part of my life for so long, it's frankly hard to imagine it without it. It's been a remarkable journey, and I feel very fortunate to have been part of a show that made television history in countless ways. It's a show about chasing and fulfilling dreams, and truth be told, it helped some of my own dreams come true too."

Seacrest will return for the final installment of "American Idol" along with the current judges, Keith Urban, Jennifer Lopez and Harry Connick Jr..
