J.K. Rowling is sorry for killing off Fred Weasley. The author took to Twitter on Saturday, May 2, which marked the 17th anniversary of the Battle of Hogwarts, to deliver a heartfelt apology to "Harry Potter" fans.
Rowling wrote, "Today I would just like to say: I'm really sorry about Fred. *Bows head in acceptance of your reasonable ire*." When a fan named Brieuc Toudic asked her, "What about Tonks, Lupin ?" she replied, "I thought I might apologise for one death per anniversary. Fred was the worst for me, so I started with him."
Other fans seemingly couldn't accept Rowling's apology. Lisa Thompson tweeted, "@jk_rowling i think that's the one I couldn't forgive you for :(." El wrote, "I love you Jo but I don't think I'll ever be able to forgive you for doing that tbh." Oliver wood posted, "His death made me feel like you were driving a spiritual knife into my heart." Natalie Fisher added, "That one was the worst, Jo. The most unforgiveable. Picturing the phrasing on the page still brings me to tears on the spot."
Rowling is currently working on the script for "Harry Potter" spin-off "Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them" which is scheduled to be released in the U.S. on November 18, 2016.
