AceShowbiz - Following the publication of a New York Magazine article detailing multiple damning allegations against author Neil Gaiman, fellow writer J.K. Rowling drew a chilling comparison between Gaiman and disgraced mogul Harvey Weinstein convicted of similar accusations.
In a social media post, Rowling observed a striking similarity in the public response to the allegations against both men.
"The literary crowd that had a hell of a lot to say about Harvey Weinstein before he was convicted has been strangely muted in its response to multiple accusations against Neil Gaiman from young women who'd never met, yet - as with Weinstein - tell remarkably similar stories," Rowling wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter.
The New York Magazine article, titled "There Is No Safe Word," detailed allegations from eight women, three of whom had never previously gone public. The women accused Gaiman of assault and misconduct, with some describing similar patterns of behavior, including incidents that allegedly occurred in his upstate New York home.
Gaiman has denied all allegations of assault, claiming any intimate encounters were consensual. However, the article also detailed the use of NDAs and payoffs to silence alleged victims, a tactic eerily reminiscent of Harvey Weinstein's modus operandi.
Weinstein, the disgraced Hollywood producer, was convicted in 2020 and is currently serving a lengthy prison sentence. His case sparked the #MeToo movement and led to a widespread reckoning with sexual misconduct in Hollywood and beyond.
Rowling's comparison highlights the disturbing parallels between the allegations against Gaiman and Weinstein, including the use of power and influence to silence victims and the apparent reluctance of some within the literary and entertainment industries to fully confront the issue.
