AceShowbiz - After taking a long break due to Lyme disease, Avril Lavigne is back with new music. The singer debuted on Thursday, April 16 "Fly" which she wrote for the Avril Lavigne Foundation that supports youth with severe illness and disability.

Also serving as the theme song of the upcoming 2015 Special Olympics, the empowering ballad came along with a video featuring numerous scenes of athletes participating in the event. Between the shots of the athletes, viewers get glimpses of Lavigne performing the song in front of a pink microphone in a studio.

"We're all meant to fly/ Spread your wings, across the universe/ It's your time to, it's your time to shine/ There's a light inside all of us/ Soon, you'll find that it's your time to fly," she sings.

The "Fly" video was premiered during Lavigne's visit to "Good Morning America" on Thursday morning. In an interview on the show, she explained the message behind the song and its visuals, "I wanted the athletes to be the stars of the video and, just like the message of the song, to show the world that they can overcome the challenges and that everyone is meant to shine."

She also talked about her battle with Lyme disease, revealing that she began feeling sick while on tour last year. However, doctors couldn't find what's wrong with her. "I went from doctor to doctor for about eight months until I found somebody that had the knowledge of Lyme disease and the experience of treating it. I actually knew I had it the whole time, probably since the summer, and was just up against a lot of doctors telling me, 'You're crazy,' " she shared.

The disease left her bedridden for months, but she used her free time to focus on her new music. "I've never had so much down time in my life, so it's been good in that sense," she added.
