The 'Furious 7' helmer becomes a frontrunner to sit behind the lens for Jason Momoa-starring superhero flick.

AceShowbiz - James Wan has been lined up to direct one of DC Comics adaptations for Warner Brothers since last year, and now it's revealed that he is a frontrunner to helm "Aquaman". Although no official offer has been made, The Hollywood Reporter learns that some preliminary talks have taken place.

New Line President Toby Emmerich did admit in 2014, "James will make an important movie for New Line and Warner Bros or DC, and that is definitely part of the plan, and a reason for bringing him into the family. He's the only overall director with a deal here, because we see him as a class of one."

The director himself previously expressed his interest in directing a DC superhero movie. "Yeah, there are some that I like," he told Collider. "I am open to all possibilities at this point."

James Wan has just finished "Furious 7" which made a record-breaking debut at the box office. Due to the movie's huge success, Universal hopes to sign him on for "Fast and Furious 8". In the meantime, he is gearing up to shoot "The Conjuring 2: The Enfield Poltergeist".

"Aquaman" will not arrive until July 27, 2018. WB allegedly prepares two separate scripts written by Will Beall and Kurt Johnstad. Before getting his solo film, the hero played by Jason Momoa is expected to make appearance in "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice" next year. He is also rumored to show up in "Justice League Part One" (2017) and "Justice League Part Two" (2019).
