'Disappointed in the committee's decision, we believe that 'Orange' represents the best of television in either category,' Netflix's Ted Sarandos says in a statement.

Unlike last year, the 2015 Primetime Emmy Awards will be having "Orange Is the New Black" competing in drama category. The TV Academy has officially announced the decision, just days after granting petitions that Showtime's "Shameless", The CW's "Jane the Virgin", and Fox's "Glee" to be considered dramas at the upcoming awards show.

Commenting on the decision, Ted Sarandos, Netflix's chief content officer, was quoted by Variety as saying, " 'Orange Is the New Black' is a truly pioneering series and an iconoclast which has always defied genre or easy categorization. While we're disappointed in the committee's decision, we believe that 'Orange' represents the best of television in either category." A spokesman for the TV Academy, in the meantime, said that "it would comment only on changes of eligibility. There is no appeals process, but 'Orange' can reapply next year."

"Orange Is the New Black" competed as a comedy at last year's Emmys, earning a total of 12 nominations. The series won in three categories, including one for guest actress Uzo Aduba. It was also considered a comedy at this year's Golden Globes and Screen Actors Guild Awards and won best comedy ensemble as well as female actor in a comedy for Aduba.
