The 'Bang Bang (My Baby Shot Me Down)' singer promised to help a 96-year-old woman who married her 95-year-old beau and wanted to be returned to her longtime northern Virginia home.

AceShowbiz - Cher has helped a 96-year-old woman return to her home in northern Virginia because she was inspired by Edith Hill and her newlywed husband Eddie Harrison's love story. Cher said she would pay to fix up Hill's Alexandria home to make sure it's properly equipped for the elderly woman.

Hill and Harrison were separated after the court disputed over whether Hill had the mental capacity to marry her companion. Court records indicate that Hill suffers from mild dementia. Harrison died in December, just weeks after Hill was taken away to Florida on the recommendation of a court-appointed guardian, but a custody dispute continued over who should care for Hill and where she should live.

Cher knew this old couple when she saw news story about Hill and Harrison. After that, she decided to help the couple by upgrading her home in Alexandria.

Earlier this month, a judge ordered that Hill should return to Alexandria once repairs are complete. Cher is not only repairing her home, but is also offering to help pay Hill's medical expenses since Hill couldn't afford her care and medical treatment unless she sold her house.

"Mom's coming home!" said Hill's daughter, Rebecca Wright, in a phone interview on Tuesday, March 17. Wright had been the biggest supporter of Hill and Harrison's marriage. Wright said Alexandria is the best place for her mother, and the place that her mother said she wanted to spend the rest of her days because her church is also in Alexandria along with her home and other places she loves. "She says she wants to see her guitar boys," Wright said, referring to a Falls Church honkytonk where she would go dancing with Harrison.
