"Love & Mercy", a Brian Wilson biopic starring Paul Dano and John Cusack as the Beach Boys leader, has released its first trailer. Arriving online on Wednesday, February 25, the trailer sees Dano channeling the singer during the peak of the group's career.
The trailer opens with The Beach Boys performing in front of screaming fans, doing a photo shoot on a beach and recording in a studio. Halfway through the video, the group's hit "God Only Knows" is played in the background. "I got different stuff inside of me. I got to get it out," the singer says.
"You need to find a way to get back to yourself," Wilson's second wife Melinda Ledbetter, played by Elizabeth Banks, is seen telling the singer later in the video. The older singer is played by Cusack.
The movie "paints an unconventional portrait of the artist by interweaving seminal moments in his life, from his artistic genius to his profound struggles, and the love that keeps him alive." Directed by Bill Pohlad ("The Tree of Life") with a script from Oren Moverman and Michael Alan Lerner, it is set for release in U.S. theaters on June 5. The movie also features Paul Giamatti who plays Wilson's physician and legal guardian.
