Cotillard's role in the upcoming flick hasn't been disclosed just yet, but might be part of the film's possible future franchise.

AceShowbiz - Marion Cotillard has just signed on to star in the movie adaptation of popular video game "Assassin's Creed". The film will see her reuniting with her "Macbeth" co-star Michael Fassbender, who's been cast to play the lead, "a bartender forced by a mysterious corporation to relive his ancestors' memories of stabbing people in the neck throughout history".

Deadline, which was the first to report the news, said Cotillard's part for the New Regency and Ubisoft's film remained unknown. Her role will possibly be part of the film's possible multiple franchise.

A release date for "Assassin's Creed" has been set for December 21, 2016, with production scheduled to start in fall. Tapped to direct the movie is Justin Kurzel, who also directed Cotillard and Fassbender in "Macbeth", which is slated to be released later this year.

Cotillard has been widely known for her awards-winning character of Edith Piaf in the 2007 flick "La Vie en Rose". She has since starred in a number of high profile features, with the latest being "Two Days, One Night".
