Two major movies announced changes in release dates on Thursday, December 11. Warner Bros. decided to push back Andy Serkis-directed live-action "Jungle Book: Origins" a year to October 6, 2017. Its original release date, October 21, 2016, is now taken by sci-fi flick "Geostorm" starring Gerard Butler.
"Jungle Book: Origins" is based on Rudyard Kipling's story about a boy who is raised by wolves. Benedict Cumberbatch provides the voice of Shere Khan. Christian Bale, Cate Blanchett, Naomie Harris and Jack Reynor are also among the cast.
Disney is also preparing a rival project with "The Jungle Book", featuring stellar cast which include Bill Murray, Christopher Walken, Giancarlo Esposito, Ben Kingsley, Scarlett Johansson, Idris Elba and Lupita Nyong'o. Jon Favreau directs the movie which eyes October 9, 2015 release date.
In other news, DreamWorks Animation and 20th Century Fox also gave "Kung Fu Panda 3" a new release date. The family-friendly movie is now set to be released on March 18, 2016. Just a few days before the original release date of December 23, 2015, the highly-anticipated "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" is set to hit theaters on December 18. DWA's "Boss Baby", which is also scheduled for March 18, is likely to change release date, but the new schedule has not been announced yet.
