'Insurgent' Releases First Image, Director Robert Schwentke Will Return for 'Allegiant

The first image from the highly-anticipated "The Divergent Series: Insurgent" has been released. The photo shared on the movie's official Twitter account on Friday, December 5 shows the three cast members Shailene Woodley, Theo James and Ansel Elgort on the run. They have guns with them while running in an open area. According to the post, a trailer will be released on December 12.

"Insurgent" is the second installment of "Divergent", which is adapted from Veronica Roth's YA novels. The series depicts the world where people are divided based on human virtues. According to the official plot, "Insurgent" will focus on Tris (Woodley) and Four (James) who become fugitives on the run, hunted by Jeanine (Kate Winslet), the leader of the power-hungry Erudite. Also starring Octavia Spencer, Suki Waterhouse, Jonny Weston, Naomi Watts, Rosa Salazar and Keiynan Lonsdale among others, the Robert Schwentke-directed flick will hit U.S. theaters on March 20, 2015.

In related news, Schwentke will return to direct "The Divergent Series: Allegiant - Part 1" with a screenplay provided by Noah Oppenheim ("The Maze Runner"), Variety reports. It is scheduled to hit theaters on March 18, 2016, while the second part is set to arrive on March 24, 2017.
