The latest hack into Sony Pictures' movies vault not only leaked some of the studio's upcoming releases but also exposed internal documents including the salary James Franco and Seth Rogen took for "The Interview". Franco pocketed $6.5 million while Rogen made a reported $8.4 million plus compensation.
The comedy film, due to be released this Christmas, has $44 million in budget. The leak was posted in a new report from Bloomberg, which also revealed that Kevin Federline got $5,000 for making a cameo. Also in the budget list is $241 for "a table of weed, coke, pills and panties".
"The Interview" follows Dave Skylark (Franco) and his producer Aaron Rapoport (Rogen) who run the popular celebrity tabloid TV show "Skylark Tonight." When they discover that North Korean dictator Kim Jong Un is a fan of the show, they land an interview with him in an attempt to legitimize themselves as journalists. As Dave and Aaron prepare to travel to Pyongyang, their plans change when the CIA recruits them, perhaps the two least-qualified men imaginable, to assassinate Kim Jong Un.
According to a Re/Code report, the cyber attack could be done by the hackers who worked in conjunction with North Korea for retaliation. Although there is no evidence to it, a spokesman for the country's United Nations delegation did not deny its involvement in the attack. Despite the incident, Sony went on with its plan to promote and release "The Interview". The studio has hired the security research firm Mandiant to help investigate the hack.
