Warner Bros. officially announced the cast of "Suicide Squad" on Tuesday, December 2. Jared Leto, Will Smith, Margot Robbie, Tom Hardy, Jai Courtney and Cara Delevingne who previously were rumored to take part in the project are set to play Batman's nemesis The Joker, Deadshot, Joker's girlfriend Harley Quinn, Rick Flag, Boomerang and Enchantress respectively.

The movie centers on a group of DC comics super villains who are given a chance at redemption by taking part in dangerous missions for the government with Hardy's Flag as the leader. Directed by David Ayer, the flick is eyeing an August 5, 2016 release.

"The Warner Bros. roots are deep on this one. We look forward to seeing this terrific ensemble, under Ayer's amazing guidance, give new meaning to what it means to be a villain and what it means to be a hero," Greg Silverman, president for Warner Bros.' Creative Development and Worldwide Production, said in a statement.

According to Variety, the studio is still looking for a star to portray Amanda Waller, a character who will oversee the team. Oprah Winfrey who previously appeared in "Lee Daniels' The Butler" apparently is topping the shortlist. Viola Davis and Octavia Spencer are also circling the role.

The report further suggested Jesse Eisenberg was still in negotiations to portray Lex Luthor whom he plays in the upcoming "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice". Production for "Suicide Squad" reportedly is set to start in April.
