Jared Leto is in negotiations to join David Ayer's "Suicide Squad". According to a scoop from The Wrap, the "Dallas Buyers Club" actor is eying to portray The Joker in the upcoming Warner Bros. adaptation of DC antihero comics.

Ryan Gosling was previously linked to the iconic villainous role made famous by the late Heath Ledger in Christopher Nolan's "The Dark Knight". He was out of contention due to his reluctance to sign a deal with options for multiple movies.

While Leto hasn't commented on the casting rumor, he recently gave an intriguing interview to The Hollywood Reporter. "I do [have my eye on one project.] I am excited about what's happening," the 30 Seconds to Mars rocker opened up.

"There are incredible opportunities and I'm very grateful for them. I'm looking forward to making films again now that the tour is wrapping up. It's going to be an exciting 2015," he added. "I've sworn to keep my mouth shut but I think that very shortly there will be something to talk about, that's for sure."

The Oscar-winning star was previously linked to the titular role in Marvel's "Doctor Strange". Although there is no official announcement just yet, but the Supreme Sorcerer role is now believed to be secured by Benedict Cumberbatch.

"Suicide Squad" is due August 5, 2016. Tom Hardy, Will Smith and Margot Robbie are in various stages of discussions for the project. Jesse Eisenberg is expected to reprise his role as Superman's foe Lex Luthor and Cara Delevingne is rumored for Harley Quinn.
