ABC is holding "Bachelor Party". The network has given a put pilot commitment with a heavy penalty to a half-hour comedy anthology series based on the 1984 movie starring Tom Hanks.

Co-created by writer-producers JJ Philbin and Josh Malmuth ("New Girl"), the project examines relationships and the institution of marriage through the lens of three couples: one about to get married, another recently divorced and a third just falling in love. They experience the trial by fire that is the modern day, co-ed Bachelor/Bachelorette extravaganza.

Philbin and Malmuth will executive produce the comedy along with Jason Winer, Max Winkler, Jake Johnson and Renate Radford, while Mary Lee serves as producer. Winer is expected to direct the pilot if his schedule allows, and later he and Winkler will alternate directing duties if the project goes to series. Each season will focus on a different wedding party.

In the movie directed by Neal Israel, Hanks starred as a groom-to-be at an epic bachelor party full of temptations. It spawned a straight-to-DVD sequel, "Bachelor Party 2: The Last Temptation", with all-new cast members.

Hanks' other comedy movie, "Big" (1988), is also being adapted into a TV series at FOX with Kevin Biegel and Mike Royce on board to write and executive produce it. The project has been given a script commitment.
