What Herman Melville told in 'Moby Dick' was only half of the story as the ship's surviving crew continued to struggle after the encounter.

Chris Hemsworth is one of the twenty one men braving the sea to encounter the myth. The first "In the Heart of the Sea" teaser trailer shows the latest work of director Ron Howard who once again adopts a story inspired by real events.

In the winter of 1820, the New England whaling ship Essex was assaulted by something no one could believe: a whale of mammoth size and will, and an almost human sense of vengeance. Author Herman Melville went on writing the classic literature "Moby Dick" based on the real-life maritime disaster, but he only told half of the story.

The film's script was adapted from Nathaniel Philbrick's 2000 National Book Award-winning nonfiction book of the same name. Numerous attempts to bring the story to the big screen were made but it was Howard who eventually got it. It reveals the encounter's harrowing aftermath, as the ship's surviving crew is pushed to their limits and forced to do the unthinkable to stay alive.

Braving storms, starvation, panic and despair, the men will call into question their deepest beliefs, from the value of their lives to the morality of their trade, as their captain searches for direction on the open sea and his first mate still seeks to bring the great whale down.

Hemsworth, who appeared in Howard's "Rush", stars opposite Benjamin Walker and Cillian Murphy among others. Warner Bros. will release the movie in U.S. theaters March 13, 2015.
