Rene Russo made a startling admission during the taping of "The Queen Latifah Show" on Monday, October 13. Russo, who stopped by the show to promote her new film "Nightcrawler" alongside Jake Gyllenhaal, shared that she had been battling bipolar disorder when Queen Latifah asked them about something they had to "push through" in their lives.

In the episode, airing on October 30, Russo revealed that she had been taking medication to treat her bipolar disorder. When asked what prompted her to take medication, she replied, "I literally crashed, hit a wall and couldn't get out of bed. I thought it was depression, but if you take antidepressants it speeds you up more."

"My mom said my whole childhood ... [was] stop-and-go. And then I stopped and was like, 'Whoa.' That was it for me. I didn't really expect to say this, but that was really it for me," Russo explained, as reported by PEOPLE. "I haven't shared this. I have friends who don't want to go on medication, and they are suffering."

Latifah then thanked her for sharing her story. "Thank you so much for sharing that. That can really help some people," she told Russo.

"Nightcrawler" is slated to open in U.S. theaters on October 31. In addition to Russo and Gyllenhaal, the Dan Gilroy-directed thriller stars Bill Paxton, Carolyn Gilroy and Michael Hyatt among others.
