Production of 'Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales' is expected to get under way in February 2015.

AceShowbiz - "Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales" is indeed heading Down Under for filming February next year. Both Australian government and Walt Disney Studios confirm the fifth Jack Sparrow movie will be shot in Queensland.

According to Senator the Hon George Brandis QC, they "secured high-profile movie franchise 'Pirates of the Caribbean' to film in Australia with a contribution of $21.6 million." It's called "Australia's largest ever contribution to the financing of a major film."

"This is a landmark deal with The Walt Disney Studios; this film will be the largest international feature film ever to shoot in Australia and will focus the world's attention on Australia as a leading film destination," he also gushed.

"The last major productions to film here were 'San Andreas', which employed more than 3,000 Queensland crew, cast, contractors and extras and Angelina Jolie's 'Unbroken', which employed about 3,180 locals," Queensland Arts Minister Ian Walker said. "This fifth 'Pirates of the Caribbean' production is a bigger film in terms of expenditure than either of those big budget films, so the economic benefits to the state will be powerful."

After several delays, the fifth film is scheduled for July 7, 2017 release. "Kon-Tiki" helmers Joachim Ronning and Espen Sandberg serve behind the lens, Jerry Bruckheimer is back as a producer, Jeff Nathanson ("Men in Black 3") wrote the script, and Johnny Depp returns to play the main pirate.

"We had a wonderful experience filming in Queensland some years back and look forward to returning," Bruckheimer said. "With its oceans, beaches, and jungles, Queensland has an incredible array of natural environments which are perfect for our new Pirates of the Caribbean."
