Carrey's appearance on the NBC sketch series will allegedly be timed to the release of his new movie, 'Dumb and Dumber To'.

AceShowbiz - Jim Carrey could be the next host on "Saturday Night Live". After Chris Pratt, Sarah Silverman and Bill Hader were locked as hosts for the first three episodes of season 40, "The Mask" star is now rumored to hit the Studio 8H stage early this season.

According to TheWrap, Carrey's appearance on NBC variety series will coincide the release of his new movie "Dumb and Dumber To", which is due November 14 in the States. In the sequel to the 1994 film "Dumb and Dumber", he will reunite with Jeff Daniels to reprise their roles as dimwitted best friends Lloyd Christmas and Harry Dunne respectively.

Carrey has hosted "SNL" twice before, in May 1996 and in January 2011. He auditioned to be a cast member for the 1980-1981 season of the show, but didn't get the part.

"SNL" will kick off the 40th edition on September 27 with host Chris Pratt. Former cast member Sarah Silverman will return as host a week later, and another "SNL" alum Bill Hader will lead the cast on October 11.
