Tommy Lee Jones' latest directorial effort "The Homesman" gets its first U.S. trailer after debuting at the Cannes Film Festival last spring. A-list actors such as Hilary Swank, Meryl Streep, John Lithgow and James Spader crowd this western drama with Swank playing the female lead opposite Jones.
Trailer begins with an older Jones telling a young woman about Swank's Mary Bee Cuddy whom he says "as fine a woman who's ever walked." Jones' George Briggs is apparently saved from death by her in exchange for helping her purpose. Together they embark on a journey from Nebraska to Iowa to transport three mentally ill women who are abandoned by their husbands.
"Three crazy women for five weeks is a lot more than I bargained for," Briggs complains, yet complies to her request. They brave the winter, avoid thieves and dangerous Indians along the way.
"The Homesman" will be released in limited theaters in the U.S. November 14. It was also screened at Telluride Film Festival late last month and is scheduled to hit Hamptons International Film Festival as well as Mill Valley Film Festival in October.
