The 'Transformers: Age of Extinction' actor is eyed to play a manager on the BP oil rig which exploded in April 2010.

AceShowbiz - Mark Wahlberg is courted to star in "Deepwater Horizon", a movie based on a true story about the infamous BP oil rig disaster in the Gulf of Mexico. The "Transformers: Age of Extinction" star is in talks to play a manager on the rig who tries to save his men.

J.C. Chandor ("All Is Lost") serves as a director, while Matthew Michael Carnahan ("World War Z") writes the most recent draft of the script. If Wahlberg is signed on, he will reunite with "Age of Extinction" producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura who will produce the upcoming pic with Mark Vahradian.

The feature film will "depict the courage of those who worked on the oil rig and the final minutes leading up to the disaster that ultimately led to great devastation that will forever be remembered." The oil rig explosion killed 11 workers, injured many others, and resulted in abundant quantities of crude oil flowing into the Gulf of Mexico.
