Actor Tom Hanks and director Steven Spielberg could team up again in a historical film set during the height of political tensions between U.S. and Russia. According to Variety, Hanks is attached to play the lead role in an untitled Cold War movie that Spielberg is eying to direct for DreamWorks.
The historical flick is based on the true story of American attorney, James Donovan, enlisted by CIA during the Cold War to negotiate the release of a pilot who was captured after his U-2 spy plane was shot down over Russia. Matt Charman writes the script, and Marc Platt will produce with Spielberg.
The project will be their fourth collaboration in a feature film. Hanks and Spielberg previously worked together in "Saving Private Ryan" (1998), "Catch Me If You Can" (2002), and "The Terminal" (2004). They also joined forces to produce critically-acclaimed 2001 mini-series "Band of Brothers".
Hanks starred in two notable films last year, "Captain Phillips" and "Saving Mr. Banks". He will next play a key role in "A Hologram for the King". Spielberg, meanwhile, is pursuing sci-fi tentpole "Robopocalypse" and Aztec drama "Montezuma". The "Lincoln" helmer is also eying "The Kidnapping of Edgardo Mortara", a true-story drama about a 6-year-old Jewish boy who was forcefully removed from his parents' home to be raised as a Catholic.
