AceShowbiz - Steve Carell will play a real-life character in his next movie, The Hollywood Reporter learns. The 51-year-old comedian will star as a cancer patient in "The Priority List" which is based on a memoir written by former high school teacher David Menasche. Warner Bros. acquires the movie rights to the book.
In 2006, Menasche got devastating news from his doctor that he only had a few months to live due to his brain cancer. After several surgeries and years of chemo, he managed to extend his life. He stopped teaching after a seizure in 2012 and embarked on a cross-country journey to reconnect with his former students.
The book was released in January 2014. Besides playing the lead role, Carell will serve as a producer. The actor will next be seen playing convicted murderer John Eleuthere du Pont in true-story drama "Foxcatcher". He is also among the cast of "Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day".
