Judges cut down the finalists from 16 to 12 after all of them perform on the first live show Tuesday, October 29.

It's now down to 12 on "The X Factor (US)" season 3. On the first live show of the season aired on Tuesday, October 29, each judge picked one from their respective group to eliminate, leaving three acts in each category.

Danie Geimer, who delivered her own version of Miley Cyrus' "Wrecking Ball", got the boot in Girls group mentored by Demi Lovato. In Boys group, Paulina Rubio chose to eliminate Josh Levi, whose performance of "Only Girl in the World", was deemed to dancey and distracting from his vocals by the judges.

James Kenney had an amazing performance of "Red" but landing in a group along with three other talented singers didn't help him earn a place in the Top 12. Simon Cowell, meanwhile, dumped RoxXy Montana who played around with "Royals".

Appearing as a standout that night was Ellona Santiago, who kicked off the show with her energetic performance of "Til the World Ends". She showed some sexy dance moves accompanied by some backing dancers. Demi called the 17-year-old a "true diva."

Also advancing from the Girls category are Khaya Cohen and Rion Paige. Carlos Guevara, Carlito Olivero and Tim Olstad of Boys group made it to the next round, while Kelly Rowland sent Jeff Gutt, Lillie McCloud and Rachel Potter to Top 12. In Groups category, Alex & Sierra, Restless Road and Sweet Suspense are getting closer to the grand prize.

The Top 12 finalists will return Thursday, October 31 at 8 P.M. ET/PT with the all-new "Meet the Top 12" episode. They will once again perform live on November 6 to perform Motown songs and the results will be announced a day later based on fans' votes.
