NBC's 'Sound of Music' Unveils First Look at Carrie Underwood as Maria von Trapp

Three Broadway vets have just been added to the cast of the live holiday production which also stars 'True Blood' hunk Stephen Moyer.

AceShowbiz - NBC has given away the first look at its upcoming live holiday production of "The Sound of Music Live!" by debuting the poster. The official one-sheet features Carrie Underwood in character as the female lead, Maria von Trapp.

Along with the first image of Underwood's von Trapp, the network announces the addition of three Broadway vets to the cast ensemble. Audra McDonald is tapped to play Mother Abbess, Laura Benanti will star as von Trapp family friend Max Detweiler, and Christian Borle will take the role of Elsa Schrader, Capt. Georg von Trapp's onetime fiancee.

"True Blood" actor Stephen Moyer has been earlier cast as the Captain, who hires a governess, Maria, to care for his seven children. He is a World War I hero and a single father living in Austria pre-World War II.

Based on the original 1959 Broadway production of the Rodgers and Hammerstein musical, the three-hour holiday production is scheduled to run December 5. It will air live on NBC starting at 8 P.M. ET. The network teams up with "Smash" producing team of Craig Zadan and Neil Meron for "The Sound of Music Live!".
