Justin Bieber's mother addresses her superstar son who repeatedly made headlines for the wrong reasons lately. While admitting that navigating the pitfalls of fame is not easy, Pattie Mallette trusts him to learn from his mistakes and eventually make the right decisions.
"My son is not a public figure to me, he is my son. I can't predict what's going to be in the headlines," she tells E! News. "Justin has always been someone who has to do things his way. And I have to be able to believe he will do the right thing and he will come out on top."
In a different chat with Andy Cohen on "Watch What Happens Live", the single mother additionally says, "I definitely think he's getting a bad rap, but I'm also not naive to think that my child is perfect and making all the best decisions of his life."
In the interview as part of media tour to promote her book "Nowhere but Up", she adds, "He knows what I disagree with, and he knows all the things that I'm really proud of him for, too. I mean, people don't talk about all the great things he does every day."
When sitting down with the ladies on "The View" Wednesday, July 10, Pattie admitted she gave Bieber a little bit of space when he reached 18. "I'm on and off the road," she said. "I think that all parents worry about their kids ... We talk, I can't really tell you all the things that we talk about."
"Some of the things I definitely talk to him about," she tells 7News during another chat on the matter. "I don't necessarily calculate his career and give him career advice because he has a manger for that, but I am definitely here to bounce ideas off and encourage him."
She has especially kept mum about her son's love life including his on/off relationship with former Disney star Selena Gomez, but in an interview with Parade, she opens up that she did give him dating advice. "I think he values my opinion," she says.
Instead of addressing his recent antics that landed him on the news, Pattie focuses on the positive as she says on the Bravo show with Cohen, "Every night before a show, he meets with Make-a-Wish kids. He goes to sick kids' hospitals. He visits with them (and) takes his time. He gives back to charities."
Bieber's manager Scooter Braun says on Twitter that the teen is going to become a celebrity who has granted the most wishes in the foundation's history. "Hey @justinbieber u r on track to grant more wishes than any other musician in the history of Make a Wish! Very proud of u! #giveback," he wrote.
Bieber most recently caused buzz after being caught on camera peeing in a restaurant's mop bucket and says "f**k Bill Clinton." Once the video was leaked, he quickly reached out to the former president and apologized for his impropriety.
