Sony Pictures has recently announced that it has greenlit "The Amazing Spider-Man 3" and "The Amazing Spider-Man 4". The follow-ups to "The Amazing Spider-Man 2" will be ready to be unleashed to theaters nationwide on June 10, 2016 and on May 4, 2018 respectively. The second installment itself is not released yet until May 2, 2014.

"Spider-Man is our most important, most successful, and most beloved franchise," said Jeff Blake, the chairman, worldwide marketing and distribution for Sony, in a statement. "So we're thrilled that we are in a position to lock in these prime release dates over the next five years."

There is still no word regarding who will be hired to pen and direct the third and fourth films. However, the studio presumably invites Andrew Garfield back to headline them with his portrayal of Peter Parker/Spider-Man.

As of now, "Amazing Spider-Man 2" is currently in production. Directed by Marc Webb, it follows the titular hero juggling his heroic duty to take out the bad guys as Spidey and his personal time with the person he loves the most as Peter Parker. This time, things will change as new villains show up and his old friend Harry Osborn returns with Dane DeHaan as the depicter.

Emma Stone, Paul Giamatti, Jamie Foxx and Shailene Woodley are among those who support the second film.
