Movie

Clad in a thick coat while sporting a quiver filled with arrows, Evans portrays the heir of Girion who slays the dragon Smaug with his Black Arrow.

AceShowbiz - Some latest on-set photos from "The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey" have uncovered a first look at Luke Evans as Bard the Bowman. Evans is seen filming a scene at a studio where he's attached to a wire and flown above what seems to be a rooftop. Sporting long hair, the Welsh actor is clad in a thick coat and rocking a quiver filled with arrows on his back.

For those who are unfamiliar with Bard the Bowman, the character is described as a "grim faced" skilled archer and the heir of Girion in J.R.R. Tolkien's book. A guardsman of Esgaroth, he's also known for his ability to predict floods and poisoned fish. Bard slays the dragon Smaug with the Black Arrow and later leads the Men of Esgaroth at the Battle of Five Armies and is crowned king of the re-founded Dale.

Slated for a December 14 release Stateside, the first "Hobbit" movie follows the journey of Bilbo Baggins, who is reluctantly swept into an epic quest to reclaim the lost Dwarf Kingdom of Erebor, which was long ago conquered by the dragon Smaug. Approached out of the blue by the wizard Gandalf the Grey, Bilbo finds himself joining a company of thirteen dwarves led by the legendary warrior, Thorin Oakensheild.

Fans can obtain the advance tickets for the highly-anticipated Peter Jackson-directed film starting Wednesday noon, November 7. Not only that, but moviegoers can also buy the advance tickets for "The Lord of the Rings" movie marathon, which is set to be held before the release of "Hobbit" on Saturday, December 8 and Sunday, December 9.

In addition to Luke Evans, "The Hobbit" is supported by the likes of Martin Freeman, Benedict Cumberbatch, Aidan Turner, Elijah Wood, Orlando Bloom, Christopher Lee, Evangeline Lilly, Richard Armitage, Ian McKellen, Andy Serkis, Cate Blanchett, Stephen Fry, Bret McKenzie, Lee Pace, Hugo Weaving and Billy Connolly.
