Sean Penn is ready to return to the director seat. The two-time Oscar for Best Actor winner is currently in talks to helm a movie called "Crazy for the Storm" for Warner Bros. Pictures, Variety has reported.
Marking Penn's first directing stint since 2007's "Into the Wild", the upcoming film project is based on Norman Ollestad's memoir. Penning the script will be Will Fetters, who has previously written Robert Pattinson's drama "Remember Me".
"Crazy for the Storm" centers on Ollestand's who used the skills his father instilled in him to survive a plane crash which left him stranded on an icy mountaintop. He's only 11 years old when the accident happened in 1979.
Penn is expected to just direct the film and not star in it. Bill Gerber is set to produce it along with Fonda Snyder and Rob Weisbach. Before negotiating with Penn, Warners reportedly considered Alfonso Cuaron to helm the project but the studio always had its eye on the "Milk" thesp.
The "Mystic River" actor will next be seen starring as a Robert Smith-like rocker in "This Must Be the Place", as well as playing a mob boss in "Gangster Squad", which has been pushed back by Warners to January 11, 2013.
