Katie Holmes is preparing herself for an impending high-profile divorce battle against her estranged husband Tom Cruise by having a meeting with her lawyer. The 50-year-old actor, meanwhile, kept low profile, waiting everyone to wear out before telling his side of story.
Holmes, 33, met Allan Mayefsky and his partner Michael Mosberg at a midtown Manhattan building on Friday, July 6 at about 11:30 A.M. Wearing white jeans and a yellow top, she stepped out of a black-tinted Mercedes with four burly bodyguards. Her daughter Suri was not seen with her.
As for Cruise, his lawyer Bert Fields told BBC that their silence had purpose. "We are letting 'the other side' (Katie and her team), play the media until they wear everyone out and then we'll have something to say," explained the attorney.
"Tactically we can't say where Tom will file a divorce case and if he'll be seeking joint custody of Suri," Fields said before adding, "It's not Tom's style to do this publicly. He is really sad about what's happening."
Holmes filed her divorce papers in New York in hopes to gain sole custody of 6-year-old Suri. Cruise reportedly will submit his filing in Los Angeles where joint custody is more popular in its courts. The estranged couple have a house in both cities, but Holmes chose to move out of the house she shared with Cruise and live with her daughter in a rented apartment in NYC.
