The special tribute has got approval from the 'I Look to You' singer's family and label partners at Sony.

The life and legacy of Whitney Houston is going to be remembered in the next installment of "VH1 Divas". The gig will be taped in Los Angeles in December with the late New Jersey singer's longtime musical director Rickey Minor serving as a executive producer.

"We all felt that if any show could pay tribute to Whitney's music, it would be 'Divas,'" VH1 president Tom Calderone tells Billboard. "December felt like enough time where it wouldn't be sad anymore, you'd want to celebrate her music."

According to the publication, the tribute has already received the blessing of Whitney's family as well as her label partners at Sony. Musical guests who are going to perform for the special segment haven't been announced just yet.

Since "VH1 Divas" premiered in 1998, Whitney had performed at the gig three times. The "Bodyguard" songstress made her first visit to the annual star-studded concert in 1999 before coming back in 2002 and 2003.

Last year, the "Divas" paid homage to Amy Winehouse in "Celebrate Soul"-themed concert. Kelly Clarkson, Mary J. Blige, Florence and the Machine, Jennifer Hudson, Jill Scott and Jessie J took the stage as headliners.
