This year marks the 51st edition of the event, which transformed into a fundraiser last year to support the community following the devastating fires in Los Angeles.

Clive Davis expressed to Billboard that the gala is a significant highlight of his year. He finds it gratifying that the event remains “alive and anticipated” even after more than fifty years. This year, the gala will honor the late Whitney Houston with the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award, a fitting tribute to her extraordinary legacy.

When asked about his favorite song from Whitney Houston, Davis likens the question to picking a favorite child. Instead, he shared a pivotal moment in their collaboration. “I can’t separate the thrill of the seven consecutive No. 1 records we had,” he explained. He reminisced about the journey from listening to demos to the excitement of seeing her records soar to the top of the charts.

Reflecting on Houston's 1987 hit, I Wanna Dance with Somebody (Who Loves Me), Davis was both surprised and pleased when Billboard named it the No. 1 Greatest Pop Song of all time in October 2023. He recalls the first time he heard the demo written by Shannon Rubicam and George Merrill and sending it to producer Narada Michael Walden, who infused it with more soul for Houston's interpretation. Their collaboration was magical, combining their different backgrounds and experiences into a remarkable partnership.

During the interview, Davis also shared some remarkable pairings from past galas that he still cherishes, along with a list of guests he hopes to invite in the future. While the performances remain a closely guarded secret until the show begins, he has his eye on new musical talents like Olivia Dean and Alex Warren.

As for this year’s honorees, the Industry Icons spotlight will shine on brothers Monte and Avery Lipman, the founder/chairman and founder/vice chairman of Republic Records, respectively.
