Robert Hall will direct and co-write the new take on the 1986 horror film about a group of youngsters who are trapped in a mall with sadistic killer robots in it.

A remake of 1986's horror movie "Chopping Mall" is underway. It has been reported that Robert Hall has signed on to direct the new take on the horror film and has scheduled to kick off the production in the spring of 2012.
In addition to serving behind the lens, Hall will pen the script and serve as the producer along with Kevin Bocarde. To Variety, Bocarde revealed that the new take will not be a straight remake. "It will retain the basic concept of young people trapped in a mall, however, the story will have a darker, supernatural spin," he explained.
The original "Chopping Mall" focuses on a gang of teenagers who are trapped in a shopping mall with sadistic killer robots. It was directed and written by Jim Wynorski. Serving as the producers were Roger Corman and his wife Julie.
Hall said that working on the remake will be exciting for him since he began his career in show business at Corman's studio. "This is an exciting way to pay homage and honor Roger while also expanding the original film's premise," he said.
Some remake movies which are based on Corman's films included 2008's "Death Race", which stars Jason Statham and Tyrese Gibson, as well as 2010's "Piranha 3-D", which stars Kelly Brook and Jessica Szohr.
