Black Widow Is the Only Female Avenger in 'The Avengers'
Movie

Scarlett Johansson's character will be the only female superhero appearing in the film, but she is not the only female character.

AceShowbiz - Do not expect to see The Wasp or Scarlet Witch in "The Avengers". Joss Whedon has confirmed that Black Widow will be the only female Avenger seen in the movie. "It is true that the movie is only going to have one female avenger," he told The Sunday Herald-Sun as quoted by Moviehole, referring to Scarlett Johansson's character.

However, the "Serenity" helmer added that "she will not be the only female character." While Whedon refused to mention the other female character(s) that will appear in the upcoming film, there has been speculation that Alice Eve could take a minor villainous role in "The Avengers".

On the storyline of "The Avengers", the 46-year-old filmmaker promised, "It will be a new story that has many things from different arcs of the comics in it. There is no one Avengers story that you can just do the way that you can do the origin of Spider-Man. You really have to cull from the original and The Ultimates, which is one of The Avengers titles."

"The Avengers" is said to kick off principal photography in February 2011 in Los Angeles. Beside Scarlett Johansson, those who have been announced as the cast members of the action movie are Robert Downey Jr., Samuel L. Jackson, Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, Jeremy Renner, Mark Ruffalo and Clark Gregg.

The film will bring together the super hero team of Marvel Comics characters for the first time ever as they are forced to band together to battle the biggest foe they've ever faced. Paramount Pictures has secured May 4, 2012 slot for the U.S. release of the movie.
