AceShowbiz - Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation has held the first gala for the 21st Annual GLAAD Media Awards on Saturday, March 13 at the Marriott Marquis Hotel in New York City and "Little Ashes" has taken home a prize. The movie starring Robert Pattinson was named Outstanding Film for Limited Release category, beating up other nominees including "Casi Divas", "The Country Teacher", "Phoebe in Wonderland" and "The Secrets".
At the ceremony, "Sex and the City" star Cynthia Nixon was honored with Vito Russo Award. The lesbian actress got the kudo for her work promoting gay rights. Another star who was handed a prize that night was "The View" host Joy Behar who was presented with the Excellence in Media Award.
GLAAD Awards is held "to recognize news coverage and entertainment programming that go beyond stock stereotypes with LGBT storylines that more fully reflect the challenges gay and transgender people face and the aspirations we hold for ourselves and our families," the organization President Jarrett Barrios previously said. Other ceremonies for the award show will take place at the Hyatt Regency Century Plaza in Los Angeles on April 17 and at The Westin St. Francis in San Francisco on June 5.
