Screenwriter John August apparently has finished writing the script for the big screen adaptation project of "Preacher". During an interview with Empire, director Sam Mendes reveals that the movie is stepping closer into materialization as he has got his hand on the script.

When asked how far the movie project from fruition, the 44-year-old responded with a positive tone, "It's getting closer." The director of "Away We Go" furthermore elaborated his answer, saying "I've seen a script and it's very good. We're a little further down the road than when I last spoke to you."

On bringing the comic series to the big screen, Mendes said, "I love graphic novels - Road To Perdition was based on graphic novel - so I'm used to that form and Preacher is absolutely brilliant. I certainly feel it's a movie." He added, "It's funny, it's violent as hell, it's extremely blasphemous and profane, but it has an amazingly skillful tone. I met Garth Ennis and I'm just a huge fan of it."

Supernatural thriller "Preacher" is adapted from critically lauded graphic novel by Garth Ennis and Steve Dillon. It revolves around Jesse Custer, a down-and-out preacher of a small Texas town. Struggling to get by and driven only by his strong moral sense, he embarks on a journey across the country to take on an otherworldly force when the town is decimated by the evil.
