AMC's 'Preacher' to End After Season 4: 'It's Been a Wild Ride'

Seth Rogen, who developes and executive produces the series, shares the heartbreaking news with fans on Instagram while also announcing the premiere date of the final season.

AceShowbiz - Preacher Jesse Custer's (Dominic Cooper) journey is coming to an end. AMC has just announced that "Preacher" will wrap its story with upcoming season 4.

Seth Rogen, who developed and executive produces the series, took to his Instagram account to deliver the heartbreaking news to fans. "The fourth and final season of Preacher is coming. It’s been a wild ride. Thank you all," he wrote alongside a video that revealed the premiere date of the final season.

Starring Cooper, Ruth Negga and Joseph Gilgun, "Preacher" was renewed for a 10-episode season 4 in November 2018 following an extended negotiating process. The show moved its production hub from Albuquerque, New Mexico, and New Orleans to Australia. The announcement of the show's cancellation comes after Rogen and Goldberg moved their Sony TV-based Point Grey Pictures to Lionsgate with a massive film and TV overall deal.

Based on Garth Ennis and Steve Dillon's 1990s popular cult comic series from DC Comics imprint Vertigo, "Preacher" follows West Texas preacher Jesse Custer (Cooper), his badass ex-girlfriend Tulip (Negga) and an Irish vampire named Cassidy (Gilgun). The three embark on a road trip to find God and are thrust into a twisted battle spanning Heaven, Hell and everywhere in between.

The series also stars Ian Coletti, Graham McTavis, Pip Torrens, Julie Ann Emery, Malcolm Barrett, Betty Buckley and Colin Cunningham.

Although the show has never topped the ratings on the network, its first season managed to crack the 1 million mark in viewers for every episode. However, "Preacher" did struggle to maintain the performance as it saw those numbers declining under 1 million plateau except for the season finale.

The fourth and final season of "Preacher" will premiere on August 4 on AMC.
