Movie

Long rumored to take the lead female role of 'Thor', the Padme Amidala in 'Star Wars' latest trilogy has been confirmed to carry out Thor's first love, Jane Foster.

AceShowbiz - The rumor circling around Natalie Portman, suggesting that she is the front runner for a female lead in "Thor", has been proven true. The latest report coming up from the comic book adaptation confirms the joining of the 28-year-old actress who is best known as the Padme Amidala of "Star Wars Episode I" to "Episode III".

In joining "Thor", Portman is set to portray Jane Foster, who was a nurse and first love of the titular character in the Marvel Comics. The Academy Award-nominated actress is expected to present Foster in this movie as being a doctor-scientist type. To be under the direction of helmer Kenneth Branagh, she will share screen with actors Chris Hemsworth, who'll play Thor, and Tom Hiddleston, who will be seen as Thor's nemesis.

About her character, producer Kevin Feige shared, "(Jane) is the human lead, so to speak, who helps ground the film in reality. We spend a lot of time amongst the other realms of the Nine Worlds of the Thor mythology and our human anchor to that." He added, "We wanted to avoid that syndrome of just because the hair is up and they're wearing glasses it means they're smart. .. We wanted somebody that can have the chemistry that the best of our Marvel couples have had, whether it's Tobey (Maguire) and Kirsten (Dunst) or Tony (Stark) and Pepper (Potts)."

"Thor" is another superhero movie adapted from Marvel comics. Set in present-day Earth as well as the realm of Asgard, it centers its story on Thor, a powerful but arrogant warrior whose reckless actions reignite an ancient war. Punished for his faults, he is cast down to Earth and forced to live among humans but once here, he learns what it takes to be a true hero when the most dangerous villain of his world sends the darkest forces of Asgard to invade Earth.

The action fantasy film eyes an early 2010 for the start of its principal photography. Paramount Pictures will distribute the flick in U.S. theaters on May 20, 2011.

As for Natalie Portman, the actress who will soon be seen starring opposite Tobey Maguire and Jake Gyllenhaal in war drama "Brothers" is about to start shooting a Universal Pictures comedy "Your Highness" in Northern Ireland. She will also film David Aronofsky's supernatural thriller "Black Swan" in New York this fall.
