Video: Adam Lambert and Kris Allen Respond to Voting Controversy
TV

During their appearance on 'Today Show', the 'American Idol' winner and runner-up laughed about the fuss over unfair voting and told people to 'relax'.

Amid the conspiracy rumors that the voting for "American Idol" this season is not valid, winner Kris Allen and the runner-up Adam Lambert stepped forward to have their say. In an appearance on NBC's "Today Show", where they also performed individually, Adam and Kris emphasized the fact that they are two different artists and that there's no way they are "in competition".

Stopping by Rockefeller Center on Thursday, May 28, Adam and Kris were complimentary toward each other and shared a hug as the crowd went wild. They sat down for an interview with Meredith Viera, telling her that it didn't matter who came out as the winner. "The bottom line is that we're such different artists that there's really no way to directly compete," Adam said. "It was more of a competition within yourself. We were competing with ourselves and doing our personal best, and it was up to America, and I'm really happy Kris won. He's super talented."

Kris responded to the question about Power Text that may have boosted his number and unfairly led to his coronation. "'American Idol' kind of gets you ready for this stuff," he said. "People are going to criticize you no matter what, and I had nothing to do with this. I just got up there and sang. I didn't call up AT&T and say, 'Hey, I need some more votes.'"

Adam, meanwhile, considered it rather ridiculous and said that he rolled his eyes upon hearing it. "I think people are just looking for something to be dramatic about," he said. "I really think people need to relax and just accept that this is the way the vote went. ... Move forward. We get to make albums now; we get to tour all summer. There's not a conspiracy, people. Relax."
