It looks like Gemma Arterton's next project will be "Clash of the Titans". Slash Film reported that this Daniel Craig's co-star in "Quantum of Solace" let it slip on Sunday night, March 29, at the Empire Awards, that she has been tapped to star in the remake of 1981 Greek mythology film.
Slash Film's report has been strengthened by The Sydney Morning Herald. In the article wherein she set things straight on rumors of her French-kissing Jake Gyllenhaal during "Prince of Persia: Sands of Time" filming, the paper wrote that the 23-year-old is about to join the principal photography of "Titans". The trade also quoted the "St. Trinian's" star on her future co-star Sam Worthington as she said, "I hope he's nice because we have to fall in love".
Of Arterton's possible role, Slash Film further broke out that she will take on the role of Io. In the Greek mythology, Io was a priestess of Hera in Argos who after being seduced by Zeus is turned into a Heifer or cow. It is yet unclear how the role of Io fits into the remake. However, given that Arterton has stated that she and Worthington "have to fall in love", there is possibility that she may play Princess Andromeda, Perseus' original love interest in the original film. Nonetheless, Warner Bros. Pictures are yet to comment on the reports.
The modern version of "Clash of the Titans" will be directed by Louis Leterrier. The movie is said to resolve around Perseus, the son of Zeus, who in his quest to save his lover, Princess Andromeda, has to overcome a series of dangerous obstacles, including facing Medusa, a serpent-tressed woman whose single glance can turn any living things into a stone. The Warner Bros. Pictures film is expected to hit U.S. theaters on March 26, 2010.
