12th Annual Satellite Awards Movie Contenders Unveiled

Crime thrillers like "No Country for Old Men", "The Lookout", and "Before the Devil Knows You're Dead" are dominating the best drama picture slot.

AceShowbiz - Listing out notable titles and names, the International Press Academy (IPA) has revealed the nominations for its annually-held Satellite Awards, which will celebrate its 12th anniversary this year, submitting them all in twenty-two film categories of the event.

In the dramatic slot, acclaimed crime drama thriller "No Country for Old Men" gloriously shines through as it garners nods in the substantial spots, notably top prize Best Motion Picture - Drama. Pic, however, is pitted against strong competitors of "The Lookout", "Before the Devil Knows You're Dead", "Away from Her", "Eastern Promises", and "3:10 To Yuma" for the title.

Two other mentions the Miramax Films release lands go to its makers, brothers Ethan and Joel Coen, namely Best Director and Best Screenplay - Adapted honor. Stars Josh Brolin and Javier Bardem also score in each, the former for Best Actor in a Motion Picture - Drama while the latter for Actor in a Supporting Role.

Joining Brolin in the category are Hollywood's A-listers such as Denzel Washington of "American Gangster", Christian Bale of "Rescue Dawn", and Tommy Lee Jones of "In the Valley of Elah." Similar lineup is found on the female side as well, which submits names like Angelina Jolie ("A Mighty Heart"), Laura Linney ("The Savages") and Keira Knightley ("Atonement"), among others.

For the comedy or musical categories, the highlight belongs to hugely-praised Judd Apatow's "Knocked Up." Not only nabs top nomination of Best Motion Picture - Comedy or Musical, the R-rated flick also has its leading stars Seth Rogen and Katherine Heigl up for best acting prizes alongside the likes of Richard Gere ("The Hoax") and Ben Kingsley ("You Kill Me") as well as Nicole Kidman ("Margot at the Wedding") and Amy Adams ("Enchanted").

Elsewhere, summer blockbusters "Ratatouille" and "The Simpsons Movie" both draw mentions in Best Motion Picture - Animated or Mixed Media. Coming on their way are epic saga "300", fantasy feature "The Golden Compass", mo-cap flick "Beowulf", and the lauded "Persepolis."
