"The Exorcism of Emily Rose" helmer Scott Derrickson has taken charge to direct 20th Century Fox's remake of sci-fi classic "The Day the Earth Stood Still."

Already had several big screen projects to do on his plate, Scott Derrickson appears to still have enough space to add one more into the list. The Hollywood North Report has revealed that "The Exorcism of Emily Rose" director is taking the helming duties in "The Day the Earth Stood Still" for the 20th Century Fox.
A remake of Robert Wise's 1951 sci-fi classic, the project will likely to follow closely the story presented in the original, which tells about a humanoid alien named Klaatu who comes to Earth to warn its leaders not to take their conflicts into space or they will face lethal consequences. Derrickson is reportedly prepping for a shoot in Vancouver, Canada where he will film the flick until November this year.
Derrickson, a 1996 graduate of USC School of Cinema-Television, earned his first break in film directing through the fifth installment of the Hellraiser series, "Hellraiser: Inferno" in 2000. Apart from "Earth", his upcoming directing stints include "Devil's Knot", "Countdown", and "Paradise Lost", a film adaptation of John Milton's epic poem of the same title.
