Known for his emotional ballads with meaningful lyrics, Lewis Capaldi continues to do what he did best. Similar to his first record "Divinely Uninspired to a Hellish Extent", he delivered heartbreaking tales of love and pain with his sophomore set "Broken by Desire to Be Heavenly Sent" which arrived four years after its predecessor.

The fact that the album was written in his parents' shed during the depressing Covid-19 pandemic might have affected the gloomy mood of his new songs. "I didn't have any other choice really. I lived with my parents at the time," the British singer/songwriter, who is currently on a world tour, explained in an interview. "I think next time, I might go somewhere sunny."

The album is led by "Forget Me" which has a little more upbeat melody. Lewis, ever the jokester, quipped the single was written to prevent fans from falling asleep in his concerts. "After touring the world, I noticed that my lesser-known slower tracks were making some of the crowds look like they were about to fall asleep out of sheer boredom," he said in jest. "However, this new one is sad and fast, much like my lovemaking."

He also gets personal with "How I'm Feeling Now" that shares the same name as his Netflix documentary which addressed his fears and anxiety while he's struggling with Tourette's syndrome. "So here's to my beautiful life / That seems to leave me so unsatisfied," so he talked about his mental health issues in the lyrics. "I'm always trapped inside my f***ing head."

The record didn't disappoint. It sent 26-year-old Lewis straight to No. 1 on his own turf, Scotland, while also leading the all-genre album chart in United Kingdom with more than 95,000 units to mark the biggest opening week for any title in 2023. It also reached the summit Down Under while breaking into Top 14 on Billboard Hot 200.
