In the sleepy, fictional town of Centerville, something is very wrong. Directed by Jim Jarmusch, this deadpan horror-comedy follows police officers Cliff Robertson (Bill Murray) and Ronnie Peterson (Adam Driver) as they investigate a series of bizarre occurrences, from pets vanishing to clocks stopping at the same time. Their quiet routine is shattered when the dead begin rising from their graves, driven by an insatiable hunger for the very things they craved in life. As the zombie apocalypse unfolds with a distinctly slow, awkward, and absurdly humorous pace, the town's residents—including the eccentric, katana-wielding hermit Zelda Winston (Tilda Swinton), the cynical hardware store owner Frank (Steve Buscemi), and a trio of young campers led by Zoe (Selena Gomez)—must confront the undead and the unsettling truth behind the cosmic imbalance. Blending social commentary with Jarmusch’s signature offbeat style, the film is a wry, contemplative take on end-of-the-world tropes, where the greatest threat may not be the shambling corpses but the consumerist habits they grotesquely parody.
