Emerging from the vibrant music scene of Glasgow, Scotland in the late 1980s, Texas established themselves as one of Britain's most enduring and beloved rock bands. Founded by childhood friends Johnny McElhone, previously of Altered Images and Hipsway, and lead vocalist Sharleen Spiteri, the group took its name from the 1984 Wim Wenders film Paris, Texas. Their distinctive sound, blending soulful melodies with jangling guitar pop and Spiteri's unmistakably rich, smoky voice, would go on to define a career spanning decades and selling millions of records worldwide.

The band's breakthrough arrived swiftly with their 1989 debut single, "I Don't Want a Lover." The track became an international hit, propelling their first album, Southside, to multi-platinum status and setting a high bar for their subsequent work. The 1990s saw Texas solidify their place in the UK music landscape with a string of successful albums including Mothers Heaven (1991) and Ricks Road (1993). However, it was their 1997 masterpiece, White on Blonde, that catapulted them to superstar status. The album, a sophisticated blend of rock, soul, and electronic influences, spawned iconic hits like "Say What You Want," "Black Eyed Boy," and "Halo," selling over three million copies and becoming a cultural touchstone of the era.

Following the equally successful The Hush in 1999, which featured the chart-topping single "In Our Lifetime," the band entered a period of hiatus as Spiteri pursued a solo career. They reconvened in the mid-2000s, demonstrating their resilience and continued relevance with well-received albums like Red Book (2005) and The Conversation (2013). Their creative resurgence continued with Jump on Board (2017), which showcased a refreshed energy and critical acclaim. A testament to their lasting appeal, Texas celebrated the 30th anniversary of White on Blonde with a major UK tour in 2024, performing the landmark album in its entirety to adoring audiences. Throughout their career, Texas has maintained a consistent output of heartfelt, guitar-driven pop, with Sharleen Spiteri and Johnny McElhone remaining the creative core, ensuring their music continues to resonate with both loyal fans and new listeners.
