Resul Pookutty, born on 30 May 1950, is a pioneering Indian sound designer, sound editor, and audio mixer who achieved international acclaim when he won the Academy Award for Best Sound Mixing alongside Richard Pryke and Ian Tapp for the 2008 British film Slumdog Millionaire. His work on that film, which also won the Oscar for Best Picture, cemented his reputation as one of the most technically accomplished sound professionals in the global film industry. Pookutty’s career spans multiple Indian languages, including Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Marathi, and Malayalam, as well as British cinema, demonstrating his versatility and deep understanding of auditory storytelling.

He studied physics before pursuing a degree in filmmaking at the Film and Television Institute of India in Pune, where he specialized in sound recording.
